HolGlee Wednesday - HolGlee Returns

Oh the Gleek has awoken within me. Now it's all jazz hands and annoying ramblings until the summer. Aren't y'all thrilled?

Holga
My photo today is from the San Francisco Street Fair Festival. I loved the dedication of these guys to spend the entire day rocking their 'Fear the Beard' beards (I could try to explain it, but it has something to do with sports or something and as we're all aware that isn't my strong suit). However, I suggest at your next BBQ that you might try the same look.

Glee
OK, I got caught on a conference call and missed the start of Glee and I just assumed I'd be able to catch it online the following day. See I traded in my DVR a while ago in an attempt to save money and fully embrace this 'internet thingy' that all the kids are talking about. But now all of the sudden if you want to catch up on a television show online from Fox you either have to enter a password from Direct TV or wait 8 days in order to see it? That means I'll have to either sweet talk my way to a friend who has it on tape or wait until after next week's episode to catch up. Curses!

So, we'll assume that nothing of note really happened in the beginning of the show. There was probably a re-cap and something that explained what the heck was going on with the multiple purple pianos (My hope was there would be a moving tribute to Prince did not materialize).

Now I was a little nervous that I was over my infatuation with the Glee. I mean, really what do these kids have that I don't? I mean if you visit my car during rush hour traffic you'll also see some amazingly sung cover versions to the pop songs of today. But I shouldn't have worried cause the combination of bright colors and broadway songs would be enough to sell me (I think it's like how oxygen is pumped into the air at Vegas Casinos to dull the pain when you start to lose your cash). When Puck starts doing push ups on a table or Mike does a butt slap (which I'll say is a patented move of mine), I'm sold. So welcome back Glee. I'll have actual thoughts and comments when I actually watch an entire episode.

Obsessions
R.E.M. - I was super upset to see that R.E.M. called it quits today. And I thus spent the rest of day listening to my favorite R.E.M. songs. Many many years ago, I went to spend a couple of weeks to Georgia. I used to (and by 'used to', I mean I still do) have a habit of listening to music to a place I'm traveling (for example, when I drove through Nebraska I was listening to Bright Eyes and Jersey was of course Springsteen). So when I went to Georgia I picked up R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People and added it to my luggage with my (wait for it) Sony Discman (that's right, that's how long ago this happened). I spent a lot of time listening to that CD while staring out of windows at the red clay of Georgia and it just kinda fit. So, I'll be in mourning for the next couple of weeks pulling out my favorite songs. Today it was 'At My Most Beautiful' and 'Drive'.

Footloose - OK, I'll say it. I think the new Footloose movie is the worst idea ever and I launch into a long winded rant every time I see the previews. However, it reminded me of how not every Footloose re-imagining is bad. If you want to hear the Footloose soundtrack covered in an amazing way check out Doveman's Footloose. Doveman's best friend lost his sister in the 80's and one of her most prized possessions was her Footloose tape. So Doveman told his friend that he would record a version of the songs. Now he did this without having heard any of the songs before. If that isn't touching enough then you need to listen to his almost whispered cover of Footloose (that's how you do it Blake Shelton).

That's what I'm obsessed and loving this week. Did anyone love the fact that Glee is back or are you totally over it? Do you have a favorite R.E.M. song? Do you think that there is a chance that the Footloose remake won't be an abomination? Do I need to go back and up my cable package to deal with this FOX TV nonsense? What are you spending your time obsessing about? Please share!

I was listening to a little bit of R.E.M. yesterday too. I'm considering giving up the DVR/Satellite too and going all Roku/Hulu/Netflix/Qwikster but what will I do about True Blood next summer?!

I'm a little obsessed with all the remakes they are doing now. why can't they make a fresh idea?

I missed new glee, but super pumped for new the Good Wife. Although I'm a little weirded out that they moved it to sunday nights. Seems like a downgrade.

My R.E.M. love will be getting it's own post very soon - when I can form words on the subject. I'm thinking a playlist theme for next week as well.

I have a hard time finding TV on the internet because unfortunately all my favourite shows are American productions and the legal means for me to watch them block us out. Some Canadian networks have stuff online, but it's hard to find. I still watch things using the PVR or (how old fashioned) during the live broadcast!

The other day I was obsessed with travel t.v. and the "Vicar of Dibley". It;s an old BBC show. Bummer about the glee situation.

ugh, footloose. i can't stand that movie. or grease. buh. i'm also not a fan of sixteen candles or ANY of those 80's type movies. i'm better with star wars & flight of the navigator.

REM's losing my religion was the first video i ever saw on mtv!

i gave up cable ... back in march? i don't really miss it, but i've also fallen by the wayside on watching house. shame on me.

I am definitely over Glee...I can't even remember the last episode I watched. Footloose is going to bomb, methinks.

This week my TV obsessions include X-Factor and Modern Family.

I love the Fear the Beards guys! When the Giants and Brian Wilson played the Reds, our biggest goal of the night was to get a picture of him and his beard.

True, I agree with Stefanie.

@Jessica - Does HBO have some kind of plan where you can stream their stuff online or on your phone? I thought maybe they did but maybe it's Showtime.

@Crymson - But remember when Gray's was on Sunday night and it was like the place to be? I feel Good Wife is filling that hole. AND HOLY COW CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW SMOKING HOT THE GOOD WIFE WAS THIS WEEK?!?! Sorry for all caps, I kind of get excited.

@Allison - I find it totally weird that it's so hard to find and share television content across countries. It drives me nuts when I try to find some BBC programming. And I've been in a total REM funk all week. I can't wait to listen to your playlist!

@Keishua - I've not heard of that before. I'll definitely have to check it out. I love all things BBC.

@Amanda - Oh man. 80s Movies are kind of my thing! And gosh how I loved (and really still love) the REM Losing my Religion Video. It's amazing! Also, House looks kind of amazing this year, I'm super excited.

@CeCe - I am so excited for X-Factor. Is it wrong that I felt incomplete without Paula and Simon in the living room each week?

@Stefanie - I saw Brian W pitch at one game and let me tell you it was seriously a site to see. The crowd went a little bit nuts!

@Fresh Garden - Thanks for stopping by and your comment!

Wait, REM called it quits? Even though I don't really listen to them anymore, that kind of saddens me. The couple of albums of theirs that I own rock.

My obsession this week is the TV show Heros. I know it's old and already off the air, but I have just started checking it out. I'm already through season 1 too.
