Stop Collaborate And Listen

One of the things I rolled over from my 31 Before 31 to my 32 Before 32 list was to create a stop action video. I attempted to do my first one capturing the sunset from my room in Costa Rica. It's not good (although it is pretty), but since I didn't say I had to create a good stop action video, I am marking this complete.

This video is 36 photos taken over 15 minutes. I rested my camera on a railing and was about 99% sure I was going to knock it over. It didn't help that I also was enjoying an Imperial at the time.

Have you ever made a stop action video? Can I say the best pictures I have taken are always of sunsets? You know, the ones where I don't have to work very hard. Where's the best sunset (or sunrise if you're an early bird) that you have ever seen?

you did great! especially w/out a tripod. bravo. I love watching the waves at first then you can see the sun go down. very pretty.

The best sunsets I've seen have been at my cottage - over the lake. But because I work some early shifts at the cafe I have been lucky enough to witness some beautiful sunrises. Some mornings the sky lights up like fire over the lake (my work faces Lake Ontario), but I never have a proper camera with me and cellphone photos do not do it justice.

I've seen some beautiful ones setting over the ocean where I grew up. I miss the water so much. This was lovely!

zomg - love love love! this is both beautiful, calming, and inspiring. you make notations like i do (never said it had to be *good* right?! LOL)

i've never taken a stop action, but i'm going to have to try now. my husband has a setting on his camera phone that does a burst of 9 in a few quick seconds & if you flip through the images it looks like a stop action, but still ...

best sunsets ever at my parents' house in mid-fall. coyotes starting to bark out, crickets, the smell of hay & cows & the middle of nowhereness.

That's really creative. I haven't made a stop action video before and really I don't know how I'd set it up. I think I will have to add this to my old bucket list though.

I think Costa Rica is the best place to do a stop action video of a sunset though. I thought the sunsets and sunrises were just so spectacular there.

This is beautiful! I'm taking my kids on a cruise in 2 weeks and since they are missing school I'm making them create things to share with their classes when they get back. I think this would be a great project. What software did you use to create the video?

@Crymson - Thanks friend. The railing was luckily my tripod and the free happy hour didn't cause too much interference. :)

@Allison - Wow that sounds incredible. Sounds like I need to add that on my list of places to go ASAP.

@Brandi - Thank you so much.

@Amanda - Thanks! Flipping through photos like that actually is what gave me the idea to try this out.

@Steve - That'd be super cool if you did! And yeah, the sunsets were super amazing in CR. Don't know that I ever caught a sunrise though. Haha!

@happytraveler - Thanks! I used iMovie and this tutorial (http://content.photojojo.com/tutorials/stop-motion-digital-camera/). Enjoy your cruise.
